Public shows
A show starts private. Only you hear it. When you make it public, anyone with the link can open the public page and listen in a podcast app through the public feed. Nothing goes public on its own: every episode waits for your approval first.
Make a show public
Pick the Public show template in the new-show wizard. At the review step, the wizard shows a Make this show public section. Type the show title exactly and choose Make public. A title that does not match leaves the show private.
If you finish setup without confirming, the show stays private. A private show can go public later. The confirmation is the same each time: type the show title exactly, and the show goes public only when the title matches.
The public page shows the show title and the public description, plus a link to the public feed.
The review queue
No episode goes public until you approve it. Each new episode enters the review queue when it publishes. While it waits, it stays out of the public page, the public feed, and the private feed. Approval is one episode at a time, by you. There is no bulk approval. A pending episode has no deadline and never publishes on its own.
You can also hold an episode. A held episode stays out of public. For an episode that reached the queue when it published, holding it also keeps it out of the private feed. For an earlier episode you queued from the back catalog, holding it leaves the private feed alone: listeners who already hear it privately keep hearing it.
The public page and public feed
The public page lists the show title, the public description, and every approved episode, with audio playback on the page. The public feed carries the same episodes in podcast form for podcast apps. Only approved episodes appear in either place.
If the show has no approved episodes yet, the public page says so: no approved episodes are public yet.
Making a show private again hides the public page and the public feed at once. The description stays saved, and review decisions stay as they are. If you make the show public again later, the boundary starts fresh: only episodes published after that moment can reach the public page through the queue, and earlier episodes stay private unless you approve them one by one.
Episodes published before the show goes public
Only episodes published after the show goes public can reach the public page, and only after you approve each one. Episodes published before that moment stay private. To make one of them public, queue it for review and approve it. Queue one episode at a time; approval is one episode at a time.
Material sent to a public show
Mail, agent reports, and other material sent to a public show wait for review before they can reach an episode. Nothing sent in airs on its own. If an agent files a report to a public show, the reply marks the report held for review, so the sender can see the item will not air on its own.
A show that is both public and a group show keeps both controls. A group approval does not make an episode public. The episode still needs your public approval before it appears on the public page or feed.
Artwork
Every public show uses the same placeholder artwork. Per-show artwork upload is not available yet.
Listing in podcast directories
Published shows appear in the gallery on this site. This site is not a directory you submit to. To list a public show in a podcast directory, submit it with the public feed link and the public page link. Apple Podcasts and Overcast are the first directories to aim for: both take submissions through their own portals.
A show needs at least one approved episode before you submit it anywhere.
In the app, a directory submission stays a draft, with the title, description, feed URL, page URL, and artwork URL saved for you. Nothing is sent to a directory from here. Take the feed link and page link to the directory portal to finish the submission.
The Public show template
The Public show template starts as a straight report. The template never makes a show public on its own: the confirmation at review is what makes it public, and the review queue still stands in front of every episode after that. See the show templates page for the other templates.
